So it appears I fixed the issue. It has to do with the CSS style maxwidth. IE does not properly render max-width, therefore there is some hack. I am not a coding whiz, but here are some possible solutions: http://perishablepress.com/press/2007/01/16/maximum-and-minimum-height-and-width-in-internet-explorer/#comment-29907

I've commented out the maxwidth style in style.css for now, but maybe you could fix this bug in your next release.

Thanks!
Kirk

I am having similar issues with IE displaying images on my site. However the images are loading correctly in IE. Then as soon as the page fully loads, the shrink up to about 10px wide, resulting in a very tall squished image, as seen here. http://www.sandiegohomephotography.com/real-estate-photography-portfolio/ These pages look fine in all other browsers I've tested except IE.

2. hmm that is weird. Where on you website is this occurring? could not find it. If you have removed it you can create a page with it so I can take a look at it in Firebug.

loading time causes this, it takes time for the css and javascript to load and they will be stacked like this, but when cached it should work fine though. A bit strange that it's only happening in IE though...well maybe not since IE is the worst browser out there.

You can test the hyper cache plugin to see if it changes (turn it off while you developing the website though).

I am using Big Feature 1.4.0.4 and I am having numerous issues with its compatibility with IE7. All other browsers (FF, Safari, Chrome, Opera) are displaying the pages/photos/sliders correctly. All of my plugins have been deactivated.

The site is here: http://www1.roundrockisd.org/edf_new/

Issue 1- This question was posted earlier: Bf slider stacks all three images upon initial page load. The stacked images appear for 1-2 seconds, then the slider works. screenshot

Issue 2- Thumb box2 and frame2.
Portfolio thumbs are appearing 1px tall in IE, but just fine in other browsers. I resized the photo to 528px, so the program doesn't have to do it, but this doesn't work either. If you click on the image, it will open in full size in the post page.
screenshot

Has anyone else encountered any similar issues with IE7+ and if so, how did you resolve it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I was wondering if anyone else is having issues with the bf slider in IE? The slider images (I currently have 3) all appear to be stacked when the page loads in IE7. They remain stacked for a second or two then take the form of the slider as it intended to be. No issues with other browsers... I have turned off all plugins and it has not resolved this issue. Any ideas?

I'm trying to embed a Flash banner (.swf) on top of the page, over the logo. It works great in FF and Chrome, but in IE there's just a white space, and nothing happens though the page seems to be loading.

Is there any easy way to fix this?

this is the troublesome imagefit script, that I removed in the latest version. You can remove it like this. This script resizes too wide images, and you probably go a too wide image that is pushing the sidebar down. You can add this to the bottom of style.css to replace the imageFit script:

#container img { height: auto; max-width: 100%; width: auto; }

This can cause some problems with external images, but maybe not in version 1.3.5.2 that you are using. This is the issue I'm working on right now, to make this css not mess up external thumb images in version 1.4.

I've been running bigfeature for several months without issue, but I just looked at my site in IE8 and the sidebar is at the bottom left, and text that is usually in my footer is up in the sidebar position.

http://diydiva.net

Here's the error from IE:

Webpage error details

Message: Object doesn't support this property or method
Line: 17
Char: 9
Code: 0
URI: http://diydiva.net/wp-content/themes/bigfeature/library/js/jquery.imagefit.js?ver=3.0

All still looks well in FF and Chrome.

Oddly, I've viewed the site in IE in the last couple of weeks and it looked fine. I haven't been dinking around in the theme at all, or added new plugins, or upgraded anything which about exhausts my ideas on "things I could have done to mess up the theme."

I get that this has something to do with image resizing, but I copy code in for all of my images right from Flickr - I don't use the standard WP upload most of the time. Wondering if I recently uploaded an image from WP and that could have caused this?

Or any other ideas?

I'm over my head on troubleshooting this and I don't see any similar issues in the forums, any help is appreciated.

Same thing is happening to me to, aswell as in Opera, and the culprit seems to be the Lightbox plug-in. Deactivating it fixes that isolated problem, but of course makes the NextGen Gallery useless. Setting IE to compatibility mode "fixes" it too.

I'm having some trouble with a transparency issue in a page slider I've created on my front page at randallmurrow.com. Everything works fine except in IE; the first slide loads up with correct opacity values (the semi-transparent white background behind the text) but this defaults back to 100% opacity as soon as I click to another slide.

images inserted into the post should have the correct width, should not rely on any resizing there.

IE6 has big problems with *.png images. Maybe the problems in point 2 cld be because it´s a *.png image file`in use? Or do you think thats because of a scaling/resize problem.

Hi VFX Dude,

I did not realize this bug until my coworkers pointed it out. I work on a mac so I don't usually get to test IE 6,7, & 8.

LightBox 2 is giving me trouble in multiple areas:

1) I have a blog using the PhotoBlog template. In IE6 the images do not resize correctly, and thus get dropped down below the article text. See screenshot:
http://adrianbardet.com/skitch//IE6-LightBox2-PhotoBlog-20100721-172148.jpg

2) In IE 6 ,When using LightBox 2 on a normal page with the default template, the images don't resize well. They appear very "crunchy" looking. See screenshot:
http://adrianbardet.com/skitch//IE6-Crunchy_Image--LightBox2-1-20100721-173358.jpg

3) In IE 8, on a post page the LightBox 2 image does not scale down and thus extends into my default sidebar area (where I use a BF Page Widget). See screenshot:
http://adrianbardet.com/skitch//IE8_LightBox2-Posts-20100721-173510.jpg

I do not have access to IE 7 so I can't say what happens there. I am using WP v3.0 and Big Feature v1.3.5.1 and have not upgraded to the most recent version because I am very close to launching the site and did not want anything to break causing more work.

Any help would be much appreciated because I am supposed to launch the site tomorrow (7/21).
THANK YOU!

Thanks! it works now.

Taking out the code did not help, but deactivating all the plugins did-So there is some conflict there.

I really appreciate it.

yep something is messed up in IE8. could be that image resizing script (a problem script that has been fixed in the new version coming soon). You can remove these lines in theme-functions.php (in the library/functions folder) to see if that helps:

add_action('init', 'bf_imagefit_script');
add_action('wp_footer', 'bf_imagefit');

I this doesn't change things I would deactivate all plugins and check. And also test with with the unmodified original theme (not from the child theme).

Hi Vfxdude,

I really like the theme and am starting to put together my blog. However, I'm having trouble with the slider. It works in Firefox, Chrome, Safari, but when testing it on Internet Explorer 8, the slider timing is off and half of the slide will show up, and overlap other slides, etc.

http://topbananawebdesign.com/queenannedaytripper/

[bfslider height="525" buttons="false" speed="8000" animation="fade"]

Thanks!

I added a script to resize the images called imagefit, but I guess you have disabled that one since there was some issues with it. In the new version that I'm working on now I have modified this script to work better though. For now you can enable the imagefit script again, but remove this (some lines above):

jQuery("#container").imagefit();

Then only images in the content area will be resized and it should not cause the reported slowdowns in IE.

but..actually you should not depend on any resizing of images inserted into the post though, the right width preset should be chosen when inserting it (wordpress creates many image sizes of every image uploaded based on the media setting sizes). See step 7 here for how to set image sizes (the content width is now displayed in the theme settings).
