Just came across this post and I think i can help you with it(I am not super expert with css though).
You need to try writing new styles for these 2 classes.

.sf-menu li li { }
ul.navigation.sf-menu li li a { }
(the trick is , it isnt easy to track the styles of objects that gets visible when certain action is applied by user. So mostly , what you can do is track the parent item and check its hierarchy using firebug.)

these both are defined in style file of bigfeature theme , but you should write new styles in child theme.

Being them cufon generated wont make any difference as cufon is a JS that plays with fonts AFTER they get styled.(as far as I think)

I hope admin wouldnt mind me helping as I know he is busy final touching the next version of BF.

Hi!

I tried using firebug but still can't figure it out - what are the CSS tags for the colors of the navigation bar text, and the child menu color text?

Right now, it's showing dark grey bar, with light grey text, and the menu is white with grey text. I don't know the css style tags that modifies it, or if it's even possible since it's cufont generated.

I'm using the bfnav child theme.

2. Everything is possible if you know how to code. Like create a function that is called from that page template that outputs your dropdown list.

3. Because I made it like that.

Hi vfxdude,

Great theme!! Just had some questions:

1. Is it possible to integrate the 'search' bar within the navigation?

2. Is it possible to get a categories drop-down menu under the navigation, on the right only for a pages created using the 'portfolio' template?

3. Why do the comments icons not appear on pages using the 'portfolio' template?

My website is http://www.anushe.com and I'm using the 'portfolio' template for 'Recent Weddings' and 'Blog'.

I've seen all the above done on a website called http://www.christinemeintjes.co.za, i think she's using your theme?

Many thanks,

actually it seems like it's only IE7 that doesn't like the clearing div, so the code can be changed to this (line 18 in superfish.js) to fix it:

$arrow = $(['<span class="',c.arrowClass,'"> »</span>'+ (($.browser.msie && $.browser.version == 7)?'':'<div class="clear"></div>') ].join('')),

It's the clearing div that is causing it (<div class="clear"></div>). This was added to superfish.js (in the library/js/superfish folder) to fix a IE6 problem. Removing it fixes the problem, but then the problem is back in IE6 though..not sure how to make it work for all browsers...

I am having a navigation / dropdown arrow problem in IE7 / Chrome. Addition of the drop-down arrow causes the individual menu background to become taller in IE7 and the arrow to wrap in Chrome, which causes the background to become taller.

Already applied the float: left, which works fine in FF, IE8, IE6, Safari Win.

when using the navigation admin in the theme settings you can change the name of the page (or category/link), and it will also change in the navigation.

If you are using the wordpress 3.0 menu admin (choose the "Use the WP3 Menu Admin instead of this one" theme setting to enable it) you can change the label shown in the navigation independent of the page name.

Okay I cld find a solution.
I did a fresh Wordpress3.0 and BF 1.3.5.2 install. Using a nextgen gallery for the slider. That works without problems in IE7. When using the BF-Wide child theme than this bug occurs in IE7. The dropdown hides behind the slider.

1.) BF-Theme 1.3.5.2 without mods - working well in IE7 - http://i25.tinypic.com/dh3eb8.jpg
2.) BF-Wide 1.0.2 without mods - dropdown behind slider bug in IE7 - http://i25.tinypic.com/5l1d6t.jpg

The solution I tried different ways on the drop down and navboxes (and all that) without luck. At least after trail and error I came to this:

#topheader .inside { position: relative; z-index:1 (or what ever you want); }

Add the > z-index:xxx; < into the bfwide style.css - Than it shld work fine.

I hope this helps.

A.

oh you are running version 1.3.4.2 of the theme, did not realize that, it has not been made compatible with WP3.0.

Thanks - sorry should have explained....I upgraded to 1.3.5.2 and hit problems. As an attempt to fix it I dropped back to 1.3.4.2 which fixed some things.

I'll u/g to 1.3.5.2 when I get a moment and fire fight from there.

Thanks for the CSS tip - I'll use that as a short term fix then I can work from a test server. "Some browsers" is better then "no browsers" ;)

So the conclusion is that this is caused by modifications to the theme. My initial thought would be z-index, the dropdown menu should be z-index:99.

oh you are running version 1.3.4.2 of the theme, did not realize that, it has not been made compatible with WP3.0. I recommend to upgrade to version 1.3.5.2 (latest version), then I think your problems will go away.

btw, you can add this css to the bottom of style.css to constrain large images to content area:

#content img { max-width: 100%; }

It will not not proportionally resize them right it all browsers though, and that's why I added a script for it...

I should take $100 for every support inquiry.

Absolutely.

If you want to sell the theme on that basis then do it. Some of the support you've given would be worth that money and I can imagine big corporations lapping it up (there's a distinct lack of WP themes with pro level support i.e. monitored SLA style with escalation, guarantees and penalties).

Since I'm not a coder (I gave that up a few years ago) I'd happily consider a paid for support model. Especially since my options now are
1. spend a lot of time looking for the issue wherever it lurks - by definition it will take me longer to find it than an experienced coder whose familiar with the code
2. "heal" the site so that it works with the code as it is now. This could take a long time and would mean that I would never want to upgrade again.
3. Go get another website. Again a ton of work plus some money. With no guarantee that I wouldn't hit the same issues.

So joking apart if you want to charge for support (and accept all that that would imply) then I'll be happy to talk.

But back when I managed test projects the rule was simple. If the system worked, and you changed "x" piece of code and the system stopped working then it was down to the developer of "x" to make sure it wasn't their code. Because really and truly it almost always was.

--------
As an aside "somebody" needs to fix the ridiculous plugin conflict thing. I'm only guessing but if the WP core developers issued a proper set of standards and nothing was allowed in the codex that didn't comply then these conflicts would be over tomorrow.

there's a javascript error from you thickbox plugin that can be the cause, but if you deactivated all plugins and no change, but I suggest you try again, and clear the browser cache.

It's a javascript error that is causing this, and don't be so quick to blame it on the theme, plugins must be made compatible with new wordpress versions too. I have tested 1.3.5.2 with wordpress 3.0 and it works fine for me.

At least 50% of the support I have been doing the last year is caused by plugins, and it sucks to waste my time on such matters! I should take $100 for every support inquiry.

The submenu of the dropdown menu point "Leistungen" is behind the image slider/fader in IE7 - FF works pretty well.

OK - I just deactivated every single plugin.

Didn't fix it. I guess it must be something else.

1. It worked before the upgrade. Yes I can spend a long time trying each of the plugins (though mostly I have the ones you advise) but that's risky on a live site. And what do I do then?

2. Um great. I bought your skin because it had image resizing so I could migrate an existing site to it. All of a sudden it's stopped working properly (I can't stress enough that it worked, I applied your upgrade and it stopped working) and now I need to do some random testing of other people's code OR spend literally days resizing pictures OR just junk the skin and get something new.

I've been a very big fan of this theme and the support you've given in the past but when you change code and it costs me days of work I go a little cold on it.

Any suggestions where I can start looking? I have a live site that I use to run my business. And it looks like crap because your code stopped working. Any ideas which plugins you might suddenly have started conflicting with?

1. This is javascript conflict, most likely with a plugin. deactivate them to test.

2. it's the image resizing script not working, again a javascript conflict. I do not recomend to insert too large images into the post though, it's much better to resize them in f.ex. photoshop before inserted, ore use the wordpress media sizes.
