this post was caught in the spam filter. That happens sometimes, but not as much as before. The spam filter seems to be learning.

Anyway, over to answering the question...

if I understand this correctly, you want to remove the side paddings in the header? then adding this to the bottom of bfnav style.css would fix that:

#headerstuff { padding: 0; }
ul.navigation.navbar { margin-left: 50px; width: auto; border: 0; }

btw, I see that you have some javascript errors, stopping any scripts from working. It seems to be caused by the "slick social share buttons" plugin. Deactivate it and scripts will probably work again (there is also a facebook error, but I think it's caused by the first error).

Hello,

you can see it here http://www.keygraphy.com

Hi,

I would like to stretch my navigation bar to the full width of a page. I also want the content of the navigation bar to start at the same position of the other content of the page (i.e. that there is some white space left and right to the content of my page). It would look like this: http://consumpsy.nl/

I've been adjusting the navigation parameters in the stylesheet and searching the web for two hours, unfortunately it didn't work out. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Kind regards,

Joren

I tested it and it works. I depends if we are talking about the same thing though. This is the parent node for all categories. When doing the modification you have to upload the file, and re add the menu item in the theme settings (navigation tab) that is now called whatever you renamed it to (it's under the Categories title for the "Items that can be added to the navigation").

I'm considering adding a labels field to the theme settings navigation system, just like the wp menu admin got, but for now you got to change some code to rename the categories top menu item.

1. Edit theme-settings.php (in library/admin).
2. Search for: <li id="cats_
3. Rename the 2 occurrences of Categories on that line.

you should not be importing stylesheets in the child theme. The function add_stylesheets in functions.php should take care of this. If you have an old version of a child theme, before I added this function, then you can copy this code into functions.php of your child theme:

add_action( 'bf_head', 'add_stylesheets', 1 );
function add_stylesheets() {
if (function_exists('bf_childtheme_css')) {
remove_action( 'bf_head', 'bf_stylesheets');
bf_childtheme_css();
} else { ?>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="<?php bloginfo('template_directory'); ?>/style.css" type="text/css" media="screen" />
<?php }
}

And remove the importing in style.css. Read this Child themes do's and dont's tip. You can also just copy the code in the bfBlank functions.php, since this child theme only contains the stylesheet import.

It's much faster to import the stylesheets like that, and it will also use the theme functionality automatically. The reason the optionstyles.css is now written to the child theme folder is that every child theme can have it's own theme setting (the "Save the theme settings for this child theme separately" setting). This way it's possible to setup many child themes and they each can have different widths, navigation and colors. Switching between them will be change the design totally, and there's no need to change anything after switching.

Check the bfNav child theme how to add a footer navigation (in functions.php, check the customFooter function and the add_action hook call in the top).

OK so now the question is:
How can I add some text (navigation links) i.e.

at the bottom of my page just before the footer text (within the container).
on the previous version I've made a copy of the footer.php into my child theme folder and I've added a
div tag with my links but now that the code has changed to hooks I don't know how to do this..

Hello,

I have upgraded to the new version. And although I saved my setting and re - imported them the layout and the colours were not restored. I've also noticed that in my child theme folder there is an optionstyles.css file created.
I had to restore back the the previous version cause everything changed...

You can easily just add external links (create them in the wordpress links section) to the navigation, but if you want them right aligned and styled differently then you need to create another navigation and combine it with the main navigation like in the first description. Just add the code to functions.php (preferably in a child theme), and then add css in style.css. This is done in the bfArea child theme, so you can look at the styles there for examples.

Another way is to -margin the one added to the header. Add a style like this (adjust the number to get it to the right location):

ul.navigation.navsmall { margin-bottom: -50px; }

Hi,

Sorry, I found this a bit confusing. I tried the to make the changes using the last description you gave as it seemed the simplest, however, I wasn't able to make it work. When I insert the BF Page widget I can only place it in the header or the top - not in the navigation.

Any advice?

Thanks again.

I went with editing superfish.js with this change below and the fading is gone. Thanks for the help!

speed : 'normal',

to

that's the hoverIntent script, that makes "accidental" mouse overs not open the dropdown menu. You can disable it by editing the library/js/superfish/superfish.js file.

Change:

disableHI	: false,

to:

disableHI	: true,

The delay can also be reduced instead of disabling it, by modifying the interval variable in the library/js/superfish/hoverIntent.js file.

There's a slight jQuery fade-in of the menu when hovering over links. I'd like to remove it (for a client), so the drop-down displays instantly.

fading? do you mean the background color on hover? if so, you can do that with css like this:

.sf-menu li li:hover { background-color:#fff; }

if you are using the theme navigation admin you can add new wordpress links (and also enable the "Include Links in the navigation admin" theme setting in the navigation tab), and then create a new navigation (socialnav) by pressing the green pluss sign (the "Enable the multiple navigation functionality" must be enabled), and drag the links to this navigation.

with the wp menu admin (the "Use the WP3 Menu Admin instead of this one" must be enabled) you can add static link directly to the new navigation.

To add the the navigation to the right of the current navigation you have to create a custom php function adding these navigations manually to new div containers (this is done in the bfArea child theme). Disable the navigation and add this code to functions.php of (preferably in a child theme):

add_action( 'bf_header', 'custom_navigation', 100 );
function custom_navigation() { ?>
 <div id="navbar" class="clearfix"><?php bf_navigation("","navsmall"); ?>
 <div id="social"><?php bf_navigation("socialnav","navsmall"); ?></div></div>
<?php
}

And then style the containers (right float the #social container etc.).

Another way to add a custom navigation is to use the bf_nav shortcode. This shortcode can be added to the header like this:

1. Create a page and add the shortcode to it.
2. Use the BF Page widget to add it to a widget area (header or top).
