I suggest not to use proplayer for youtube and vimeo videos, since they are fetched by the theme now. If proplayer is enabled it will be used instead, and I don't know the status of proplayer right now. It has been a bit unstable lately. If you deactivate proplayer the thumb should be fetched automatically. If you are not using proplayer, then it is probably the way you add videos. I recommend to add the iframe embed code to the video field. Like this one for the video you linked to above:

<iframe width="960" height="720" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/QZNxbzEwB5k" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Urls like this, also work:
http://youtu.be/QZNxbzEwB5k

this is a sample link of the url that I use for the videos and im still not getting thumbnails. Are you suggesting that I use proplayer exclusively in order to get the videos re-sized to thumbnails ?

The way I have been adding the video is to include the long form link from youtube and paste it into the video field on the post page.
Are you talking about the iframe code or the old embed code? The old embed code never retrieved video preview images, but the new iframe does. You could use proplayer with it's shortcode or url, then you would automatically get the video images, but never with the embed code. In version 1.4.1.1 I rewrote the video image fetching so that proplayer is not needed anymore (for youtube and vimeo iframe embed code or url added to the video field). The old embed code will still not get any video image though.

The way I have been adding the video is to include the long form link from youtube and paste it into the video field on the post page. Prior to the last update it actually was working in that videos would show up as re-sized thumbnails on the main page however now none of them show up at all.

When running the timthumb script directly on your website, I can see that the script can't cache the resized images, so you need to set the cache folder writable (755 or 777. depends on server configuration) in library/timthumb (create it if it's not there). See the timthumb troubleshooting at the bottom of this article for more information.

How do you add the video? In the version of the theme you are using video thumbs from youtube and vimeo should be fetched automatically without proplayer (for both url and iframe embed code).

I see you have an error message on page 2 of the blog, this is a bug that I have now fixed and a new version will be out shortly, but here's a doityourself:

1. Edit theme-functions.php (in library/functions).
2. Search for:

if ($readmoreEnabled) $thumbrm = '<a class="more-link" href="'.get_the_permalink().'">'.$bf_thumb_readmore.'</a>';

replace with:

global $post;
if ($readmoreEnabled) $thumbrm = '<a class="more-link" href="'.get_permalink($post->ID).'">'.$bf_thumb_readmore.'</a>';

I hope everybody has updated to the most current version of BigFeature! My itty bitty site just got hacked (BOOOO!) through timthumb because I hadn't upgraded to 1.4.1. Which was totally stupid on my part.

So yes this is a REAL vulnerability and yes you DO want to use the most current theme version to avoid the mess I just finished cleaning up. Blech.

updating timthumb.php (in library/timthumb) should work (zoom cropping will not work then though). You might have to delete the cache folder, and recreate it if it's not done automatically (I did not have to do this with my hosting, but setups are different).

timthumb is updated in the latest version of the theme (1.4.1).

Hi there

I've been reading recently about the security flaw in TimThumb (article here) - and was wanting to update the timthumb file in the Big Feature theme to make sure this doesn't happen to my clients sites. I use Big Feature often, so will need to do this across the board. I tried replacing the timthumb.php file with the new one provided by the creator (as suggested by Woo Themes in that article linked above), but it didn't work - the images were no longer showing. So, I have reverted for the time being, but need to get this updated as soon as I can.

Is there something specific I should be doing to update this for Big Feature?

Really appreciate your time.

Thanks!

there's an "internal server error" when running the timthumb script. This can be caused by server security restrictions. I have seen this some times before, and then it was wrong file rights. Did you check the timthumb troubleshooting at the bottom of this article? Make sure the cache folder is there and that it's writeable (setting it 777 can sometimes cause such problems). Also check the webserver log to see if there's any errors listed there (it's usually in the root of the webhosting account).

if the cached images are not loaded then timthumb must resize the images every time, and then it will be memory problems. It helps to resize the orginal image, because big images take much memory when resized, but getting the cache to work is important. Check the webserver log for warnings and error messages. Maybe it's blocked by some security setup, or could be that the folders don't have the right file rights.

You can uncomment the error reporting in top of timthumb.php to see if there's any errors outputted there. These lines:

error_reporting(E_ALL);
ini_set("display_errors", 1);

In version 1.4.1 it will be possible to use the wordpress resized images instead of timthumb though...

Hi,
since day 1 i have problems with timthumb, it seems like there is a memory leak. I keep allocating more memory, but i can only do that for so long. as far as i could see, it does cache the thumbnails, but it does not load the cached thumbnails. do you know of any alternative? I might have to change to another theme, and that would really suck, not mentioning the time i have put in so far. thanks!

Hi i'd like my thumbnails from bfthumbs (the default ones) to be like my thumbnails in my portfolio page,

however, to do this I need to modify the div structure. I looked at shortcodes.php and see what I need to change but I don't know how.
I need to get this div structure:

<div class="post thumb page-thumb" >
<div class="postimage">
<div class="overlay"> // this is a div class i'd like to use for hovers

<div class="thumbcontent">
</div>

</div>

</div>
</div>

I really hope you can help me with this, it would be awesome.

Good morning, I am not able to attach a screenshot. However, this is what I want to do. On the static frontpage you have this shortcode [ bfthumbs category="portfolio" numposts="3" ] which pulls the thumnail images from the category of your blog. Instead of thumbnails from categories of the blog spread three across, I would like to add images of the individual blog contributors instead and when each person posts a blog it's title shows up with the assigned thumbnual image.

I don't know what you are talking about. a screenshot with annotations makes it easier to understand.

Hello,

I am working on a site http://www.dionevanslive.com/ojb and there is a section that says blog topics at the bottom. I know the bfthumbs code, but it only pulls from one category. I want to be able to have a categories show up side by side and an associated image with the category it pulls. I also do not want that thumbnail to be 255 x 100 as the others are, I want it to be 100 x 100 for each 6 thumbnails side by side. Thank you!

use the id parameter instead of post. parameter explanations can be found here.

Aaronj, here are the ways to add default post image. If you want to have the images only for thumb posts add the image url to method 4, but if you also want them for other posts (blog frontpage and on single post pages. like on the demo website) use method 1.

Looks like this may be your problem: [bfthumbs post=54 numposts="3"]
54 is not in quotes
As well, for thumbs to work (found this out yesterday), you have to have default image set to yes for each image (click on media, then on picture, then yes at the bottom).
Hope that helps,
AJ
