Thanks VFX, i didn't have the preview image selected in the pro-player options, i was positive i double checked that as switched on and off before.

Regarding the HD, it will play in HD when the HD code is pasted within the video options, but will not work with the pro-player re-skin. As it turns out, this seems to be an issue with JW Player, on which pro-player is based. The devs are aware of the issue and are working on it.

Again, thanks for your help.

as you can see here, the thumb is working with this code:

[pro-player width="640" height="385"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rT8fbbje83c[/pro-player]

Have you enabled the "Turns on/off displaying a default preview image before video starts." setting in proplayer? I guess you have to use embed code for youtube HD videos.

Hello there,

Again, great theme and thanks for all your great work.

I have 2 issues with pro-player, i hope you might be able to help me with.

First one is, i never get a preview image when i upload the video, either directly to my ftp account, or by linking to a youtube video.

Here is the sample page http://junkiegamer.com/index.php/2010/01/test/

and here is the code i used in the Big Feature post settings/video

[pro-player]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rT8fbbje83c[/pro-player]

Also, is there a way to playback youtube links in HD? I did the resizing of the video, but all that did was stretch out the SD version.

Thanks

I added the Facebooklike and Tweetmeme buttons to my site wich works fine like in this example:

When I embed a video as my feature image these buttons mess it up:

http://www.overdose.am/2010/05/05/test-post-2-video/

Do you have any advice on how to fix this?

external images and video thumbs are not re sized with timthumb, this means they can be distorted. There are 2 ways around this:

Right click and save the distorted thumb image. Then resize it and upload it with wordpress, and then add the url in the "Thumbnail image URL" field below the editor (you must have the latest version of the theme for this to work (1.3.5.1). here's how to upgrade).

or add a width and height for the thumbnails in the same proportion as the image. Example:

[bfthumbs category="featured" width="255" height="191"]

the url was wrong (get the right url shown by clicking share), use this shortcode instead:

[pro-player width="640" height="385"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esEXrQUHqsI[/pro-player]

and I also recommend to add the width and height (you get this shown by pressing embed), since then it will be re sized proportionally.

I add the shortcode in the area for the videos under the text area for the post, the shortcode I use is like this: [pro-player]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esEXrQUHqsI&feature=topvideos[/pro-player]
the plugin is activated and I've done all you have explained about the videos, but for the first time, after publishing the post, I have an image like this and the second time I go on the homepage I found only the broken image-icon and the name of the video in the high-left corner of the thumb.

I resolved the issue, it was posted as a problem on the ProPlayer site that with the latest MySQL 5 install strict mode is on by default but the only resolution they had was to change the sqlmode for all databases on the server. That did not sound like a very good fix so I found a simple line code that you add to the mysql query in Proplayer's playlist-controller.php file. Just added mysql_query("SET SESSION SQL_MODE := ''",$connection); to take out strict mode specifically for that application.

The updated lines look like this:

// unfortunately stupid WP doesn't carry these details :S
$connection = mysql_pconnect(DB_HOST, DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD);
mysql_query("SET SESSION SQL_MODE := ''",$connection);

you can set a background color on the feature div, but that is constrained by the container, so it will not be full width like that. The container div's must be changed to make a full width background color for the feature/video area like that. I have been thinking about changing the structure of the theme to make such designs possible, maybe I will do it for version 1.4.

I am using Big Feature 1.3.4.3. I went through and tested every version of proplayer it looks like the break comes from 4.05 to 4.5. I think it has to do with this:

Session based XML playlists are replaced by DB based XML playlists

I am going to check to make sure all of the PHP XML extensions are in place and there are no MySQL conflicts that are causing the problem.

I tried all of the above and it still did not work, I deleted the plugin completely and went back to a much older version 2.8.6 of pro player and it worked without any problem. So there is something in there that is conflicting. But if the 2.8.6 works for now I am just going to keep it at that.

First off, the shortcode added should have a width and height parameter, like this:

[pro-player width="560" height="340"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqTWUzehCUM[/pro-player]

but that is not the cause of this problem, since default dimensions will be used if this is not specified. you can test to eliminate the cause.

1. Add the shortcode to a post/page to see if it works there.
2. Activate the default theme and check the post there.
3. Test with the shortcodes available here.

I checked and I am using PHP 5.3.1, WordPress 2.9.2 and the 4.7.7 Pro Player. I tested using a couple videos I uploaded locally to the site by:
[pro-player type=mp4]http://mysite.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/converted_video.mp4[/pro-player]

and I couldn't get that to work so I went to the Pro Player web site and he had a series of example videos to use so I tried a couple of those like:
[pro-player]http://vimeo.com/7532457[/pro-player]

And they all said "Video is not available". I set the Cache to 0, any other ideas you may have let me know and I'll try it.

On the plugin author's site there were a lot of users that were having the same issue but they did not go into detail as to what caused it or if they resolved it and how they did not post it so I am not sure if it is something to do with server configuration, compatibility or what yet. BTW, I am on an IIS server if that helps any.

Thanks,
James

Did you test with one of the example shortcodes? can I see the shortcode you are using?

I'm using WP2.9.2, proplayer 4.7.7 and BigFeature 1.3.4.3, php5 (this is a requirement for proplayer), and it works.

Btw, set the Cache Timeout to 0 in the plugin settings.

What version of Pro Player are you using with your demo site and what version of wordpress are you running. I have the latest wordpress and according to the plugin page on the wordpress site that plugin is not working with the latest version of wordpress and I checked on the authors site and others have posted this problem but there had not been a resolution yet. I tried 4.5 and 4.0 as well on the latest wordpress and neither worked for me.

I recently purchased your big feature template and I like it but I am trying to incorporate the feature video using the pro-player and I get a "video is not available message" each time. I tried for all different types of video and external youtube and vimeo videos and they all got the same result. Please help.

Thanks,
