Hi again,

I've changed the background colour for this theme in the theme settings. But know I discovered accidentally, that - although I have done this - in the style.css is still the original background colour, that comes with the original theme files (#edeeef).

At the frontend site, the colour is as I set it in the theme settings, so far, so good. But I don't understand, where BigFeature writes this background colour down, if not in the style.css ... I'm a bit confused, sorry ...

The styles for the theme settings are set in optionstyles.php (in library/css).

I ran into the same thing. I was kindly reminded of the Web Developer plug-in for Firefox. Using the CSS tools I was able to track down the exact location and file that I needed to get adjusted. It's a big help for finding all sorts of useful information.

the thing is that optionstyles.php should not be changed...use Firebug to find out how you can override the css with specificity (preferably in a child theme).

I'm still a bit at a loss as to how to do this. I'm trying to change the colour of main text area's background (white by default). I've sucessfully changed all other colours using the interface under Appearance... but when editing the CSS, nothing I do seems to affect the colour.

I'm looking at /library/css/optionstyles.css

.caption { background-color: #333333; color:#FFFFFF; }

I've changed to

.caption { background-color: #333333; color:#000000; }

But the colour has not changed. Do I need to somehow activate this CSS?

this css file was added in version 1.3.3 and it is used and generated if the "Cache the settings stylesheet (use css file instead of php)" theme setting is enabled. However there is no sense in editing this css file, since it will be regenerated every time you save the settings.

The colors for the caption can be changed in the theme settings. Use this css to change the color of the container:

#container { background-color: #eee; }

I recommend to do such modifications in a childtheme http://www.vfxdude.com/bigfeature/2009/10/faq/#childtheme

Do you mean "Caption Background color" in the settings? This doesn't seem to change anything... Perhaps I broke something... I'll try reinstalling from scratch...

that's the one. as it says below the "Image Caption Style" dropdown list: The colors for the bottom and frame styles can be adjusted in the Colors section. So the default caption style won't change color. Caption colors for the default images (feature and normal size) will change though.

I think were talking about different things !

I don't want to change the colour of the caption, I want to change the text area background colour which is White by default - there doesn't seem to be an option for this...

Just to clarify - I changed this:

by adding a few selected background: #000; to the style.css.

Probably dead simple to most of you, but I'm a complete noob!
