This is weird but it's pretty serious.
I have a bunch of posts in a photoblog section I had the container left at default size and all images are resized to 848 wide. I increased the container width to 1024 and left sidebar etc unchanged. On SOME (but not all) the default image just vanished from the page. It was there in thumbnail view but not category view or individual post view. I changed container width back and it reappeared.
Hmm.
Coupled with your preview advice not to upload pics that are "too large" that pretty much cripples some of the nice features of the template. I guess that means I have to decide the container width day 1 and never ever change it. Or reupload pictures for a few hundred posts.
It's probably worth documenting this feature. Because you can waste a LOT of time trying to figure it out.

you can add large default images, they will resize, they will just not stretch (why would you like them too?). The images inserted to the post is a different matter, since they are not resized by timthumb.
