Hello vfxdude,
Thanks so much for the great theme.
Still in a learning stage, but Love the way you made it easier for
beginners like me.

OK, I read all forum posts, themeforest comments and your trouble
shoot for timthumb issue. But I still can't figure out the problem.
Maybe I'm just not understanding the solutions discussed...

Here is my site, http://www.hintcollective.com
As you can see, the thumbnail images for the posts are broken.
and once you click the post, you see the full size image there no problem.
All my images are set in the 848 width.
Some images are from your demo site in that width.

Thing is that some of the thumbnails are indeed generated and
are placed in:
/public_html/wp-content/uploads/2010/01
Tricky part is that 582 Width thumbnails are not generated.
Followings are the thumbnail sizes I see in this folder:
funnypeople.jpg
funnypeople-300x142.jpg
funnypeople-150x150.jpg

To see if the smaller thumbnails are working, I enabled the
"Enable thumbnails posts for the blog" but the page still didn't
give me the images, but with the broken link icon.

Do you see what could be causing my problem?

those thumbnails are generated by wordpress. The images for timthumb will be stored in library/timthumb/cache. If the cache folder isn't there, create it and make it writable. That might fix it.

When running the timthumb script directly:

It sends back this error message (in IE):
Warning: file_exists() [function.file-exists]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/usr/local/apache/htdocs/www/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/musicheader3.jpg) is not within the allowed path(s): (/home/:/usr/lib/php:/tmp) in /home/a3118880/public_html/wp-content/themes/bigfeature/library/timthumb/timthumb.php on line 579

Seems like the script can't access files in the upload folder. This is something I would ask the hosting support about.

It seems like this is only a warning, and this messes up the image header so the image doesn't get displayed correctly. Tell the hosting support to turn off this warning message, or allow the path for script access. Here's more info.

Thanks for the detailed response.
I went to my host's faq and found a similar problem answered,
so I tried and it worked! ha!
What I did was to put the following line on the top of timthumb.php.
error_reporting(0);
Don't know if this may trigger another problem, but so far so good.

Hello-

Purchased this theme and it's great! I too am having a problem with Featured images not showing up as thumbnails.

HEre is an example: http://vintagehighway.com/wp-content/themes/bigfeature/library/timthumb/timthumb.php?src=/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/Parked_at_Cooper_lrg1.png&w=528&zc=1

I have added a "cache" directory as suggested and made it writable. I have not altered the PHP file though.

Please advise.

This is the error message returned (in IE):
Warning: touch() [function.touch]: Unable to create file ./cache/2e3d06d4cab253399c92a8a93400d4b1.png because Permission denied in /www/htdocs/carpevinoauburn/vintagehighway.com/wp-content/themes/bigfeature/library/timthumb/timthumb.php on line 236

So there is a file rights problem. Seeing the setup instruction at the timthumb website, one of the steps is also to make the timthumb folder writable. This has not been necessary in any of my installations, but it might be for you.

I've got the same problem ... can't get thumbnails. I've created a cache file, made it writable, made the folder which contains the timthumb folder writable etc... nothing happening. I did change the width of the site to 900px - would that have made a difference?

Please help, driving me crazy here :(

so how do you add the thumbnails? resizing the width of the container makes the thumbnail width larger (if not width parameter used in bfthumbs) so they have be a bit wider. Test timthumb by accessing it directly to see if there is any error message (see in the troubleshooting how to).

hey and greetings from germany.
i´ve purchased the theme 2 hours ago and i´ve the same problem with the default picture. i watched also your little video but after selecting the default picture nothing happens insted of a little error icon. hope you can help me.

I have problems with the default image not showing up as well. I've tried to link directly to the thimthumb image, and it works:

But still it doesn't work on the image.

when I set another width on the image it doesn't work.

Hi.
I've fixed the permission on the timthumb folder, and now it works for any random width I set it to.

Also,
If I uploaded a default image with a width of 848px, they show up fine (although thumbnail is not generated), but if it's any bigger (i.e 1600px), it's not displayed..

the image url used on the site is:

http://gerad.pair.com/tingmike/wp-content/themes/bigfeature/library/timthumb/timthumb.php?src=/tingmike/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/def3.jpg&w=848&zc=1

and this is right, the tingmike should be added, since it's a subdirectory off the main domain. The reason it's doesn't work is probably because there is a webserver redirection, so that is not the root of the website. Will you get a domain name? Then it will work.

The reason it works without that folder name is that the timthumb script searches for the wp-content folder (with an overhead), but adding an image url like this /wp-content/uploads/2010/03/def3.jpg will not work.

The thing is, right now I'm setting the theme up on a new server, on a new wordpress installation. Once everything is ready to go, then I'll redirect the old domain name to the new server. Otherwise, if I'll redirect it now, the the domain name will be pointed to the new server which is not properly set up yet.

Any idea how to deal with this issue?
