Featured Image code

I'm editing BigFeature to quite an extent for my own site. With it I need to edit the featured image quite a bit to make it look like this - http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/1802/bigfeature.jpg

So the featured image would actually be the background of a div with a pixel border and the article to have date and title but no article text.

However, I can't make head nor tale of the code in both the index.php file and theme-options.php - could someone please help me to understand what the code actually means, if possible? Thanks.

If you check the feature image with firebug you will see that the feature image is already wrapped in a div with a class feature. If you need to wrap yet another div around it you can do it like this:

replace this:
if ($postType == "feature") if (!get_image('feature')) $postType = "normal";

with this:
if ($featureImage = get_image('feature', true)) echo '<div id="featurewrap">'. $featureImage . '</div>'; else $postType = "normal";
