   I'm having trouble reducing the footer width, I've changed the padding on the main container to reduce the width but the footer sticks out each side. I basically want to make it the width of the header.

   I have tried adjusting the padding in #footer-widgets and #footer on the BFNav and Bif Feature CSS files but they don't seem to affect anything.

   Can you help?

   you have to change the width of the footer (and also the padding #footer-widgets):

   #footer .inside { width: 908px; }

   A tip is to use Firebug, because then you can make live changes to test what is controlling what without editing the files.

   Using firebug, it would seem the width is set by the theme options page - but I do not see it listed. I can adjust the 'container width', but this does not change the size of the footer. Just thought I would point that out...

   all widths are set by the options styles, they are dynamically calculated based on the other widths, but there's not a setting for all of them. The reason I have not added it is that I don't see the point of changing the width of the footer of the original theme. In child themes you can just use the css above.

   When I adjusted the container size to 940px, the footer sized to 1040px. Is this a bug, or is this the intended size in respect to the container?

   the footer is outside the container so it's container + paddings. 940 + 100 = 1040.

   Hi, i changed the container padding to 20px 31px
   Now, as you can see on http://goeast.cc , the footer-text is no longer in line.

   Can you please give an advice?

    Hi, I would like to adjust the width of the footer widget columns - ie, not have each of the columns the same width (I'm currently using 4 columns). I've checked with FireBug but can't seem to find how to do this.

    the width is automatically calculated based on the width of the container (set in the theme settings), but it can be overrided with css.

    Here's an example of reducing the general column width, and increasing the width for the BF Page widget (this can be done woth any widget. use Firebug to find the classes):

    #footer-widgets li.widget { width: 120px; }
#footer-widgets li.widget.widget_bf_page { width: 300px; }
