I would like to adjust the space between the main feature and the thumbnails on my homepage (which is using the nosidebar template) where and which file do I need to customize in order to do this?

if you are talking about the slider (main feature), then you can set the bottom margin with the marginbottom parameter (it defaults to 20px). Example:

[bfslider marginbottom="0"]
